June 20, 2011. You will live forever in our memories and hearts.
Remembering Nkiru Amene by her older sister - Nneka
Nkiru was one of the most amazing people you could ever meet. She was so caring and full of life. She is number 3 in our family of 5 (4 girls and 1 boy). I called her 'Miss Social' because she made friends so easily; you never worried about her moving anywhere because you knew that within days, she'd have nice friends to help her out.
She was extremely intelligent - she graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Arizona with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Michigan. At the same time she was doing her Masters, she was working for Chrylser Automotive in Detroit Michigan. At Chrysler, she was one of the select few going through the management trainee program that affords particpants opportunities to experience different facets of the company.
In 2009, she got a job with Boeing and moved to St. Louis Missouri. While at Boeing, she became president of the National Society of Black Engineers at her company and organized lots of volunteer activities. She applied to Harvard Business school and got accepted and was due to start in August of this year. After her best friend's (Amuche) wedding, she was going to take a month off and tour Europe with her roomate-to-be at Harvard before settling down to the demanding program of the business school. God had other plans.
The best part about Nkiru is that she knew God; she prayed and read her bible and knew that it was not through her own might but through God's that she was that successful in life. She's with Jesus now. We'll see her again; that is our belief as Christians.

An Inspirational Young Lady |

Dear Amene Family,
I had the privilege of being a colleague of Nkiru over a period of 2 1/2 years, even though I work at General Dynamics. We and Boeing collaborate on many projects. Nkiru would shine like a star even amongst a group of highly intelligent and talented people, and I saw this on many occassions. She had many other friends and colleagues here at General Dynamics as well as at Boeing.
Nkiru's sister points out that she always was quick to make friends and I would like to share one example with you. Our facility is in a very small town in a rural area. Nkiru would come here for work perhaps four times per year. On several occassions one of the waitresses at a local restuarant would ask me "When is Nkiru coming back?". How many people would be remembered by a waitress after having been in the restaurant perhaps 2 or 3 times with many months intervening between visits? Not many, I am sure, but Nkiru was that type of person. Memorable. Nkiru was also inspirational due to her intelligence, work ethic, and genuinely warm and caring personality. None of us will ever know how many lives she touched and directed towards a better path in her short time with us here on earth, but I am sure that it is many. I know that several of us here were inspired by her. She set a good example.
I will miss my colleague and friend, but I can take solace knowing that she will forever reside in heaven with our Lord and Savior.
